Kirsty Purvis School of Dance
Ballet
We follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus for ballet. Children begin in pre-primary and can work their way up through the grades and vocational levels with the option of taking exams.

Ballet is often described as graceful and can be seen as the foundations for many other styles of dance. Students will learn French terminology to accompany the movement vocabulary. In RAD ballet, many of the pieces of music used are adapted from the famous ballets, helping the students to gain a wider ballet education. From grade 1, the students are also introduced to character dance within their ballet syllabus. This part of the syllabus includes movement inspired by the National dances from different countries and is featured in classical ballets including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppélia and many more! Within the vocational levels, students demonstrate pointe work. This is very challenging part of ballet but is often the moment that children dream of reaching when they begin ballet classes.

Some of the benefits of taking ballet classes include improved posture, balance and movement control.

Modern
We follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus for modern. Children begin in primary and can work their way up through the grades and vocational levels with the option of taking exams.
Modern is a fun and energetic dance style that combines techniques from contemporary, lyrical, jazz and commercial dance styles. Students learn technique specific to the genre whilst also working on dances in lyrical and jazz dance styles. This type of dance involves lots of kicks, leaps and turns and can often be seen on stage in musicals.

Some of the benefits of taking modern classes include improved strength, flexibility and performance.

Tap Dance
We follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus for tap. Children begin in pre-primary and can work their way up through the grades and vocational levels with the option of taking exams.
Tap dance takes its roots from African American dance but also has links with Irish and clog dancing. The dancers wear special shoes with metal taps placed on the balls and the heels of the shoes, these taps connect with the floor in different patterns and with different qualities to create intricate rhythms. Tap dance can be seen on stage in musicals such as 42nd Street, Singing In The Rain and Mary Poppins.

Some of the benefits of taking tap classes include improved rhythm,
co-ordination and musicality.
